Elma's Heirloom Sugar Cookies - Mrs. Rudy Kabe

Elma's Heirloom Sugar Cookies 

Fill a one cup measuring cup with 1 whole egg, 3 tbsp milk, cream, or buttermilk and then sugar.

Add:
1 scant cup shortening
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 1/2 cups flour

Chill. Roll and bake in 350 deg. oven.
(This is recipe that four generations of Mrs. Fred Prescher's family have been brought up on. It's great for date-filled cookies too.)
