Dansk Sirupskager
Combine and heat until almost boiling:
1 cup dark molasses
1 cup sugar
Remove from heat and add:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup lard
Let stand until lukewarm. Sift together and add:
4 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp cloves
Then add 2 slightly beaten eggs and 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in warm water. Chill 1/2 hour until dough is easy to handle. Roll out very thin. Mix with plenty of flour. Cut in Christmas shapes and sprinkle with colored sugar. Bake at 350 deg. from 6 to 8 minutes. (This recipe was from the Augsburg Christmas Annual -- Vol. 33).
