Grandma's Kringla - Mrs. Ingvald Hjelmtveit

Grandma's Kringla

1/2 lb butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
4 cups flour
1 tsp baking ammonia (small)
2 tbsp cream
1 tsp lemon extract
1 tsp orange extract

Add baking ammonia to flour, then add better and cut in as for pie crust. Add sugar, flavorings, and cream to the eggs and beat well. An extra egg yolk may be added. Add this mixture to the flour mixture and mix well. Take a small piece and roll out and twist into kringla shape or wreath shape. Beat 1egg and brush on. Then dip in coconut and sugar. Bake in 360 yo 375 deg. oven for 10 minutes.
This recipe was brought from Norway. It was my mother's. The baking ammonia can be purchased at a drug store. They freeze well.
